ABOUT MOTEL 6
Founded in 1962, the first Motel 6 in Santa Barbara still leaves the light on
today. The original price of a night's stay was just $6.00, thus establishing
the brand name for an American classic. The brand continues to grow and
currently has more than 840 locations with over 87,000 rooms in the United
States and Canada. As part of the Accor family, Motel 6 is now the largest owned
and operated hotel chain in North America. Accor is the largest hotel operator
in the world with nearly 4,000 hotels in 90 countries.
ABOUT TOM BODETT
One day David Fowler, a creative director from the RGA agency, was driving down
the Dallas Parkway listening to the public radio station when suddenly he heard
a homey voiced monologue followed by the name, Tom Bodett, and thought, "Hey! I
could make a fortune with this guy." Thirteen years of award winning advertising
later, Tom is still speaking out about the merits of Motel 6. Tom, who lives
with his wife and son, continues to record his monologues for Motel 6 from a
small studio from his home and is currently working on a series of children's
readers for Alfred A. Knopf. The first volume, Williwaw! was published in April
of 1999.
SO WHAT?
OK, so anyone can learn about Motel 6 and Tom Bodett with one quick Google
search.
But nothing could have prepared us for the hoopla they made when they found out
that Katie and I were about to make love for the very first time - and at their
Lake Tahoe Motel!
